Eindhoven, 16 en 17 januari 2010: Matsuru Dutch Open Espoir
2010
The 34th edition of the Matsuru Dutch Open Espoir judo
tournament has, again, been succesfully organized in
Eindhoven. On 16 and 17 January 2010 a total of 1500 (!)
judoka’s from France, the USA, Poland, Germany, Belgium, the
UK and the Netherlands joined this tournament. For the Dutch
competitors under 15 and under 17 years, this event was
appointed as a qualification tournament for joining European
and World Championships. Many spectacular ippons could be
seen during this event. (Some of these, and much more, can
be seen on the many high-quality pictures that are published
on this site and on the photographers site. )

From January 2010 onwards, the contest rules
of Judo have changed in a large way (the use of techniques
that include grabbing of the leg has been banned, and the
penalty incurred for doing so is disqualification from the
match. ) Both referrees and judoka’s had to get used to
these changes. This was not always easy. The Pim Smit award,
for the club that scored the most prices during this
weekend, was this year issued to Ben Rietdijk Sport from
Velserbroek.
Also from an organizational point of view this tournamement
was very succesfull. On both days the matches finnished
exactly on time. That is the reason why the chairman of the
Southern District asked all judoka’s, coaches and visitors
to give Jan Oosterlee and his more than 250 volunteers a big
applause for the impeccable organization of such large
event.
